Baptism Gifts with Special Meaning

April 11th, 2009, Posted in Babies

Baptism gifts can represent the spiritual theme of this momentous occasion.  The cross is one of the most familiar religious symbols.  A great way to symbolize a baptism is to give a gift that displays the holy cross.

Here are some cross themed baptism gift ideas that will create the perfect remembrance.

  • Cross Wall Plaque – A day-to-day reminder as they grow of their being a member of God’s family.  You may even choose a design that has a special children’s prayer engraved on it.
  • Embroidered Afghan or Blanket – A lasting memento that can be stitched with a cross along with the baby’s name and their baptismal date.
  • Child Bible – This baptism gift is the perfect way to introduce Bible stories to a child with special illustrations that appeal uniquely to children.  Some designs may allow for personalizing.
  • Engraved Photo Album – A wonderful keepsake with an engravable front cover to hold all the cherished photos of their special day for years to come.
  • Customized Picture Frame – A custom-made way to display a cherished photo from their baptism.
  • Cross Jewelry - An infant-sized necklace or bracelet can be worn as baptism jewelry that will elegantly accessorize any baptismal outfit and can be cherished as an heirloom for passing down to future generations.
  • First Rosary and Keepsake Case - Given together as baptism gifts, they will be inspiring souvenirs of the child’s baptism day.
  • Plush Bear or Lamb – Can commemorate this special occasion for years to come by having special words or a cross embroidered on it.  If it happens to be musical it may play a favorite children’s tune for the child to sing along with, such as ‘Jesus Loves Me’.

As you can see, there are many baptism gifts that not only symbolize but also create lasting memories of this once-in-a-lifetime Christian celebration.  Since they are only a baby, they will appreciate the keepsake gifts as they grow both physically and spiritually.

Birthday presents for impossible dads

April 9th, 2009, Posted in Uncategorized

Why are dads so impossible to buy presents for? I think they must do it deliberately. I never know what to get my dad, it’s impossible because he’s not really in to anything except music. You might think that would mean it’s an easy task, but he has very selective taste and everything he likes, he already has. And he literally just isn’t bothered about anything else. So you can imagine why it is that I’m a bit worried about his 50th birthday coming up soon. I want to get something special, something that he will keep and that will get used, instead of just sitting on a shelf gathering dust (I got him an mp3 player last Christmas and I don’t think he’s even opened the box yet!). I’ve already started shopping around for the ideal gift, but so far I’ve not been struck by any lightning bolt of inspiration.

So what can you buy for someone like that? A friend suggested I buy some nice crystal glass tableware, she bought her parents a set of wine glasses for their anniversary and said they use them all the time. I hadn’t really thought of anything like that, but my dad does enjoy an occasional drink so I thought I’d have a look and see what I could find.

My parents already have a set of crystal wine glasses so there wouldn’t be much point buying more of those, but I managed find a decanter that I’m pretty sure is a perfect match. The only problem is I’m not really sure what the point of a decanter is – I mean, I know what it’s for, but do they really make wine taste any better? Or are they just for decoration, in which case why bother? And I don’t really think my dad would use it much. maybe I should go for something more everyday, I’m pretty sure I saw a nice selection of unusual looking handmade beer glasses on the same site, maybe my dad would be more likely to appreciate and use one of those.

‘Thank You’ gifts for Mothers Day

April 5th, 2009, Posted in Uncategorized

In recent years, Mother’s day has been taken over by greetings card companies as another gimmick for them to make more cash. The day is often overlooked, forgotten until the last minute and then covered up with a bunch of flowers and a card. Not that there’s anything wrong with that exactly, but the whole reason for Mothers day is so we can say thank you. Flowers and a card might be enough from a child, but coming from an adult son or daughter you have to admit it might seem like a bit of a cop-out.

So what’s the best way to show our appreciation? Of course there are those who go all out with expensive treats, diamond and pearl jewellery, holidays or expensive spa treatments. It’s a nice idea but let’s face it, a little out of a lot of people’s price range! A more affordable alternative might be to take her out for a meal at her favourite restaurant, or spoil her with a day of pampering or shopping.

If you’d prefer to go for a single gift, all you have to do is put some thought into it. After all, you probably know your own mum better than anyone, and will be able to choose something you know she will really love. Jewellery is usually a safe choice, and doesn’t always have to break the bank. If she has expensive taste and you can’t stretch to diamonds or pearls then you could look at semi-precious stones or freshwater pearl jewellery. There’s not much difference between freshwater and saltwater pearls to the eye, but as the freshwater variety are less rare they are also far more affordable.

Don’t forget the most important thing when you’re choosing a gift – ‘it’s the thought that counts’. It sounds like a cliché but really it doesn’t matter how much money you have to spend or where the gift is from. As long as you put some thought in to it and choose something personal that you know she will appreciate, then your mum will love it.

Ideas for a Romantic Valentines Day

Valentines Day Message

You may be surprised to learn that Valentines Day has its historic origins way back in Roman times. But it wasn’t until the 15th century that the exchange of Valentines love notes became common.

Today Valentines Day has become an overly commercialised affair in which we are pressurised through advertising to buy cards, chocolates and flowers. We’re told that we should be taking our partners for expensive meals or even romantic but expensive weekends away in Paris.

But if you are anything like me you’ll have all but overlooked the imminence of Valentines day, you’ve forgotten to purchase a Valentines card and you’re likely to get the cold shoulder treatment from your partner for your forgetfulness. So what can you do to make your partner happy on Valentines Day?

One very easy win is to cook your partner’s favourite meal. This becomes particularly special if you rarely cook. Pick up a few bottles of her (or his) favourite wine, or maybe a little champagne, take the phone off the hook and tell them that you have planned a romantic evening at home for two. If you can lay your hands on a nice pair of crystal champagne flutes all the better.

If cooking a special meal isn’t going to put you in your partners good books what about a romantic cocktail evening at home? Treat your partner to a couple of their favourite cocktails and then follow this up with a romantic shared bath with candles and incense then a romantic early night, if you know what I mean.

One of my friends keeps his wife happy on Valentines Day by finally completing one of the many household DIY chores that his wife has been nagging him to do. This year he is planning to finish building some bookshelves that his long suffering wife has been waiting for since last August.

If you still have time to get to the shops why not look for something a little more romantic than the traditional flowers and chocolates. Crystal glass is always a good bet. There are so many beautiful and delightfully decorative yet practical glassware items to choose from. I’ve already mentioned champagne glasses, but what about a pair of nice James Bond style cocktail glasses for your romantic cocktail evening? Alternatively you might choose some beautiful lead crystal wine glasses, or a decorative vase for those Valentines flowers.

Whatever you do on Valentines Day don’t overlook the most important thing which is the message that you give to your partner. Whether you do it with gifts, cards, romantic weekends away or meals at home, be certain that your special person knows exactly how much you love them.

The rumor begins that the delivery truck has parked outside, each person wonders if she is the one receiving them, and the whole crowd is eagerly awaiting as they are carried along the corridor. Baby Blankets Can Make Wonderful Baby Shower Gifts

October 13th, 2008, Posted in Babies

It is never easy to think of a great gift for a baby shower but a baby blanket can be just the answer to earning yourself the “most popular gift” award at the shower. With a range of clever and original designs available today you can’t go wrong here with these unique baby shower gifts.

However, what could be more ordinary than a baby blanket you ask? Used for hundreds of years to swath a baby and provide much needed warmth, it’s difficult to picture somebody coming up with a new idea for a blanket. Well guess again. Baby blankets have discovered whole new heights of creativity, usefulness and fun.

One example is “Pigs in a Blanket” which combines both a clever design and a practical gift. This two-piece gift set will produce lots of “awws” and “oohs” when the expectant mom opens the beautifully decorated gift box which comprises a delightful vintage container topped with an organza bow.

Inside the box she will discover a plush blanket which can be imprinted with a memorable phrase or simply personalized. It is wrapped around a gorgeous teddy bear-style pig which will quickly become the baby’s favorite. Manufactured from a stain-resistant polyester and with a tough construction, it might very well even be passed down to the next generation of the family.

This particular gift also includes a child’s story book rhyme designed to complement the two other items. “This Little Piggy” printed on the back was never so much fun and the five little piggies which are dancing on the front agree.

Another gift which is just as much fun is the JoJo Giraffe toy which also comes with its own special blanket housed in a keepsake box. At 20 inches high it will sit proudly in the corner until the baby can no longer resist playing with it… which will take approximately three seconds. With his legs and arms wrapped around a multi-colored keepsake box made in similar style, JoJo is unquestionably a perfect gift.

The blanket which accompanies the gift adds immeasurably to the delight which both baby and mom will receive from this lovely item. Very easily personalized with the baby’s name, the sunshine yellow fleece is both soothing and warm. In addition, at 30 inches by 40 inches, it is ample size for either a baby blanket or decorative bed cover.

But baby blankets which are bought as standalone items can also make perfect gifts. One great example of this is The Maddie’s Meadow. Brightly and colorfully decorated with butterflies and flowers on a pink background, it’s most inviting. The gift box also carries a matching theme with fluffy pink clouds and bright green grass that are a reminder of the joys of spring. Personalization is also easily achieved because of the generous satin border surrounding the soft fleece.

Some Exciting Bath Time Baby Shower Gift Ideas

October 8th, 2008, Posted in Babies

Can you think of any more natural combination than babies and baths? At times it seems that they spend half their early lives splashing around in the bath. Sponge bath for the first three months followed by a short tub for the rest of the first year and a regular tub for the next five years. So, how about making it easy for Mom, Dad and baby by getting all the bath time items they are going to need as specialty baby gift baskets.

Step out on a cold morning and you will quickly discover that a bathrobe is probably their first requirement. Ensure that baby is comfortable and warm with a bathrobe made from the finest terrycloth and make both Mom and baby happy by buying the one with a design that brings two smiles at once.

Better still, give the baby a preview of what is to come later in life with a spa baby bath set. Miniature slippers in which, pink or blue that are simply to die for and washcloths that are as soft as they use in Baden Baden where the big girls go on holiday. But, remember that there is a long way to go first and so also get that charming toy frog to match the design on the slippers.

Speaking of amphibians, how about a four-piece turtle hat box set? A gorgeous pink hat box wrapped in a white silk bow is the perfect container. The inside there are slippers embossed with those appealing little green creatures all nestled alongside a terry washcloth, a 30-inch hooded towel and masses of other goodies.

For the bath you have lots of choices.

Of course, bath soap is essential. But why not turn this practical necessity into a delight? Ducky baby soap is one answer. Adorned with baby ducks and scented with herbs, the container itself will be a wonderful keepsake. The soap itself is of course designed specially for baby’s delicate skin and will leave baby with the scent of a garden.

The beach ball bath set provides another fun choice. Made of soft terry, it is paired with a hooded towel and washcloth that make for the perfect mix of hygiene and play. All cotton, these items are comfortable, warm and extremely absorbent.

However, before the baby can get out to dry off you will certainly wish to keep them amused in the bath. One sure way to achieve this is with a puppy puppet. And, as soon as they are ready to get out, the matching puppy hooded towel is there and to do its job. Sturdy, soft and hilarious, it will meet its task with fun and style.

Make drying off a warm and easy breeze with a colorful 3-piece terry set. Made of ultra-soft velour cotton and adorned with a baseball motif, the hooded towel is only the start. A matching infant robe and full-sized bib with Velcro latches makes this set decorative, luxurious and practical.

Finally let the baby rest and revel in his or her post-bath time with a luxurious play bucket which is full of fun plush crabs or turtles and watch as those two little eyes brighten with excitement. As a baby shower gift there can be little doubt that these bath time gifts will be more than appreciated.

Bath time makes a great theme for a baby shower but these are only some of the many terrific baby shower ideas which make this such a fun party today.
